Iceland weather, weather warnings, wind

Yellow weather warnings across Iceland are expected to expire this evening and overnight, but strong winds will persist in many parts of the country tomorrow, meteorologist Óli Þór Árnason of the Icelandic Met Office told mbl.is.

Winds are expected to ease overnight and tomorrow morning, particularly in eastern Iceland. However, the east will see more rain, while precipitation is also forecast in the south and southwest. Árnason said winds could strengthen during showers.

Wind speeds approached 30 metres per second in several places today. The highest reading was 32.3 metres per second at Fagradalsfjall on the Reykjanes peninsula. Stórhöfði recorded 30 metres per second, followed by 29.9 at Papey.
