A Vietnamese marketing agency is behind social media posts falsely claiming Swedish Left Party MP Mohamed Abdukardir Ali admitted election fraud and was arrested, SVT reports.
Ali denies the allegations of suspected election fraud linked to his personal-vote campaign. The posts have prompted angry comments on Facebook, including calls to deport him.
The agency publishes content about politicians and public figures in several languages. Its apparent motive is financial rather than an effort to influence Swedish politics, SVT reports.
“The company presents itself publicly as a viral marketing agency, but in reality it pumps out AI-generated content on a large scale,” said Jonathan Lundberg, a journalist at Källkritikbyrån.
Ali, from Borlänge, won a seat in parliament with 648 personal votes after being in the Left Party for less than a year. Allegations of suspected election fraud in connection with his campaign followed. SVT said it had contacted him for comment.
