Winds and precipitation to ease across Iceland after noon
Winds and snowfall are expected to ease across Iceland after noon on Thursday, though yellow weather warnings remain in several regions, mbl.is reports.
The warnings cover the Strandir and Northwest Iceland, Northeast Iceland, and East Iceland to Glettingur. Strong winds, snow and poor visibility are forecast in those areas.
Northwesterly winds of 13 to 20 metres per second are expected, with snow or sleet. South of the mountain passes, precipitation will be lighter. After noon, winds will turn southwesterly or become variable at 5 to 13 metres per second, with scattered showers or snow showers. Strong gusts are forecast in the southeast and east until evening.
Temperatures will hover around freezing, but reach 2 to 8 degrees Celsius along the south and west coasts. On Friday, southwesterly winds of 8 to 15 metres per second are forecast, with some showers. It will be mostly clear in eastern Iceland, and daytime temperatures will be 4 to 10 degrees.
