Iceland, road conditions, weather

Winter driving conditions are widespread across Iceland, particularly in the north and Westfjords, as well as on mountain roads, mbl.is reports, citing the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration’s umferdin.is website.

There is ice on Hellisheiði and in Þrengsli, while Sandskeið has patches of ice. Mosfellsheiði and Kjósarskarð are covered in snow. Snow cover is also reported on Holtavörðuheiði and Brattabrekka, with ice on Vatnaleið and Fróðárheiði.

In the Westfjords, the mountain roads Steingrímsfjarðarheiði and Dynjandisheiði are impassable. Most routes in the region have snowdrifts, snow cover or ice. Súðavíkurhlíð is under an uncertainty alert because of avalanche danger.

Öxnadalsheiði in the north is icy, and most other routes in the region are covered in snow.
