The film Death Stranding is expected to shoot partly in Iceland next year, mbl.is reports, as international film production in the country has been especially active in recent months.
Director Michael Sarnoski and cinematographer Pat Scola recently visited Iceland to scout locations and shared photos from their trip on social media. The images suggest filming will take place in several locations in South Iceland.
The film draws on the world of the video game of the same name, but will tell a standalone story, according to international media reports. Coverage has highlighted plans to film in Iceland and Northern Ireland rather than relying solely on studio sets and computer-generated backgrounds.
The popular game is set in the United States after a catastrophe. Its protagonist tries to prevent the surviving population from being killed. The game features actors including Mads Mikkelsen, Lรฉa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn.
