Iceland, weather, wind

A yellow weather warning for storm-force winds takes effect in southern Iceland at 10pm tonight, mbl.is reports. Strong southeasterly winds or a storm, with rain, are expected across southern and southwestern Iceland as the evening progresses.

A deepening low-pressure system over the Greenland Sea is moving north, with its fronts approaching Iceland, according to a forecaster’s commentary on the Icelandic Meteorological Office website. Southeasterly winds are expected to strengthen gradually today, bringing some rain.

Winds will be lighter in northern and eastern Iceland, where skies will be mostly clear. Temperatures are forecast to range from 5 to 12 degrees Celsius.

The fronts are expected to move north across the country overnight. By tomorrow morning, southerly winds will be fresh to moderate with showers. In the northeast and east, strong easterly winds and rain are expected until around midday.
