FC Midtjylland supporters have called off a planned atmosphere boycott and other protests after agreeing with the club that fans will be heard on key decisions, DR reports. The dispute began over a new wolf emblem on the club’s third kit but also raised questions about supporters’ influence.

The club unveiled the heather-coloured shirt a few weeks ago, replacing its usual logo with a wolf icon. The design drew anger on social media, where fans demanded the return of the “real” logo.

Three supporter groups, Black Wolves, Hedens Drenge and Midtjyllands Ungdom, then sent the club an open letter warning of a boycott and other protests. They said the club’s identity and culture were moving in a direction they could no longer recognise.

Kent Nielsen, an FC Midtjylland supporter and co-host of the fan podcast Sort Snak, said the disagreement was about more than a shirt. Fans believe they should have a say in certain matters, including the club’s logo and how its shirts are used, he said.

Black Wolves has said the club worked on a new logo in spring 2024, but later abandoned the plan. This time, supporters were not involved in the design of the third kit, which does not carry the club’s usual logo.

FC Midtjylland declined to give DR News an interview. But the club’s brand director, Preben Rokkjær, said on Sort Snak that the introduction of the wolf icon may have happened too quickly. The club may have tried to force the change on people instead of giving them time to embrace it, he said.

The new agreement says fans will be heard if the club considers changing its logo, name or colours. Nielsen said supporters had got what they wanted “at least on paper” and that the deal had put an end to the dispute for now.
