Yle reports that a refurbished western entrance to Kamppi metro station will open on Monday at 5.10 a.m., giving passengers access from street level of the new health and wellbeing centre.
The entrance’s interior has been renovated, including the replacement of the old escalators. Architect Tuomas Silvennoinen said the design aims for a calm visual impression. The escalator shaft has a pale, wave-shaped ceiling, and a perforated panel helps dampen noise.
The renovated underground connection across the road to Kamppi metro station and the Kamppi shopping centre will also reopen. The new entrance is expected to make it easier to transfer from trunk bus routes 20 and 30 to the metro.
The health and wellbeing centre will open to the public in 2027. Helsinki’s central social and health services are due to move into the building in stages during the first half of next year. Street works beside the building are expected to finish by the end of 2026, when the renovated Runeberginkatu will reopen to vehicle traffic.
