Sweden’s red-green parties agree on just four of 17 issues covering taxes, benefits and government spending, according to a review by SVT of questions put to the parties before the election.
“There is probably an understanding that compromises are necessary. We know from the past that the Social Democrats are prepared to go a long way to satisfy their partners,” said Elisabeth Marmorstein, SVT’s domestic politics commentator.
Most voters interviewed by SVT in Stockholm said parties should stick to what they said before the election, particularly when it comes to specific campaign promises. “You can’t let your voters down,” said Ewa Orlowska.
Marmorstein outlined which issues are likely to be easiest to resolve and where disagreements could emerge.
