Budget surplus and patrol ship gap lead Breddin programme

KVF’s radio programme Breddin will examine the proposed 2027 budget and the lack of an operational patrol ship for VØRN, the agency that operates the vessels.
The new coalition’s first budget proposal was presented yesterday and forecasts a surplus of 13.5 million kroner. The surplus relies on cost-cutting measures and some mergers.
At the same time, ICES issued new recommendations for pelagic fish for next year, all of which are higher. The recommended level for mackerel rises by 102 percent, prompting questions about whether that could increase state revenues.
Finance Minister Aksel V. Johannesen will be a guest on the programme.
VØRN currently has no patrol ship in service, with both Tjaldrið and Brimil laid up. Tjaldrið, built in 1976, is particularly old. Plans for a replacement have been ready for 20 years, but no new ship has been delivered.
The programme airs at 10 a.m.
