Recent reports have surfaced detailing at least three serious incidents of youth violence that occurred over the weekend. On Friday in Tuusula, a minor was stabbed while intervening in an aggressive situation at a large youth event. The following day, another minor fell victim to a violent assault in Vantaa’s Myyrmäki area, where they were attacked with a sharp object, sustaining severe injuries. Authorities are investigating this incident as a serious robbery and attempted murder, suspecting three masked young men as the perpetrators. On Sunday, a sixth-grade student was also stabbed in Jyväskylä during a dispute, with the assailant being under 15 years old. Although the victim’s injuries were serious, they are not life-threatening.

Antti Kivijärvi, a specialist from the Youth Research Society, noted that weekends surrounding the start and end of the school year often attract large groups of young people, increasing the likelihood of violent crimes. He explained that alcohol consumption at youth parties is frequently tied to acts of violence, stemming either from intoxication or drug-related debts.

While individual incidents may not significantly stand out in police statistics, Kivijärvi stressed that most young people do not engage in criminal behavior. Despite ongoing concerns from parents regarding their children forming new social circles with unfamiliar peers, he reassured that the vast majority of youth stay out of trouble. He emphasized the need for intervention for the small group of minors who are involved in a higher incidence of criminal activities.
