Police find no crime in Tampere unmarked car incident

Police do not suspect a crime was committed by a man who opened the door of an unmarked police van in Tampere, Yle reports, citing Helsingin Sanomat.

The Central Finland Police Department has decided not to conduct a preliminary investigation into the August incident in Villilä, Tampere.

The man was returning home from work when he noticed a running van by the roadside with no one visible inside. He began filming with his phone and approached the vehicle.

When he opened the door, a person behind the front seats pointed a handgun at him. The van had no external police markings, and the man said the person inside was wearing civilian clothes.

The police officer who pointed the weapon is suspected of breach of official duty and making an unlawful threat. State Prosecutor Tapio Mäkinen is investigating that matter.
