Scammers target writers using city library’s name

Scammers have sent emails in the name of an employee of Borgarbókasafnið, Reykjavík’s city library, to members of the Writers’ Association of Iceland in an attempt to obtain money, mbl.is reports.

In a warning, the library said the emails were not sent by the employee and had no connection to the library. Staff never send emails except from addresses ending in @reykjavik.is, and never ask writers or other parties for payment to take part in projects organised by the library.

Writer Una Margrét Jónsdóttir reported receiving one such email on Facebook over the weekend. It appeared to come from Hildur Björgvinsdóttir at Borgarbókasafnið, but did not. Other writers responded to Una Margrét’s post and said they had received similar messages.
