Yle has published a more detailed breakdown of its content, distribution and service costs, the Finnish public service media company said. The move is required under Finland’s Yle Act, which obliges the company to improve the transparency of its operations and finances.

Earlier this year, Yle commissioned an external assessment of how much more information it could disclose about content and service costs. The assessment found that Yle could publish more cost data, although competition law limits the information it can provide.

Yle has used the assessment to publish its costs for 2025. Information for the current year will be released next year.

For the first time, content costs have been reported by content group and production model. Yle has also broken down the costs of its own productions by expense type, including personnel costs, production equipment and external costs. The distribution and service costs include a separate breakdown of digital services, among other categories.

Most of Yle’s direct content costs in 2025 went to producing news and current affairs content, which accounted for 107.7 million euros.

Yle spent 207.4 million euros on direct content costs for its own productions last year. Purchases, commissioned productions and co-productions accounted for a further 98.6 million euros.

The full breakdown is available on Yle’s website.
