Weather service warns of dangerous gusts tomorrow

The Icelandic Met Office is warning of potentially dangerous wind gusts tomorrow, with speeds reaching 30 metres per second under Eyjafjöll, near Mýrdalsjökull and in Öræfi, mbl.is reports.

East and southeasterly winds of 10 to 20 metres per second are forecast, accompanied by rain and strongest in the south. The gusts could be hazardous for vehicles exposed to strong crosswinds, according to a meteorologist’s forecast discussion.

Winds will turn somewhat weaker and southerly with showers in the afternoon, while conditions will clear in the Northeast. Temperatures are expected to change little.

Today, southwest winds of 3 to 8 metres per second and light rain or occasional showers are expected in many parts of the country. It will clear in the south after noon, with temperatures ranging from 7 to 13°C.

Southwesterly winds with showers or rain are forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday, while precipitation will be limited in the Northeast and East.

A new low-pressure system is expected to bring strong winds and rain on Thursday. The wind will turn northerly on Friday, bringing rain and sleet to the north. Temperatures will fall in northern Iceland but remain mild south of the mountain roads.
