Iceland and Ukraine discuss drone cooperation absent from Icelandic statement

Iceland and Ukraine are reportedly working on an agreement on cooperation involving unmanned systems, including drones, mbl.is reports.

The information was published by the Ukrainian news agency UNN, citing Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, after a meeting in Reykjavík between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Icelandic Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir on Saturday.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, the ministers discussed cooperation between the two countries on unmanned systems and agreed to accelerate preparations for signing an agreement. Sybiha also reportedly said that Ukraine was ready to share its experience in protecting critical infrastructure.

No further details were given about what the planned cooperation would involve or when the agreement might be signed.

The proposed agreement is not mentioned in the Icelandic Foreign Ministry’s statement about the meeting, published on the Icelandic government’s website. That statement says the ministers discussed Iceland’s continued defence-related support for Ukraine, as well as economic and humanitarian assistance. They also discussed Ukraine’s urgent need for greater air defence and energy support ahead of winter.
