Police arrest theft suspect carrying a knife

A man in his thirties who was detained by police last night was wanted for questioning over a theft and was carrying a knife, mbl.is reports.

Capital Region police arrested the man after receiving a report of suspicious movements. He is a suspect in the theft investigation and was held in a police cell.

Deputy Chief Superintendent Hjördís Sigurbjartsdóttir told mbl.is that police had been looking for the man because they wanted to question him about the theft.

The investigation is continuing, and police expect to question him on Saturday. Sigurbjartsdóttir said people are generally charged with weapons offences when they are caught carrying a weapon.
