Minister says election reforms will not be forced through parliament

Logi Einarsson, Iceland’s minister of culture, innovation and higher education, has assured local government representatives in East Iceland that proposals to change the electoral system will not be “forced through parliament”, mbl.is reports.

The proposals include reducing the number of members of parliament representing the Northeast Constituency.

The matter will now go to the parliamentary presidium, which will decide how it proceeds. Einarsson said there was therefore no reason for an uproar at this stage.
