Defence says no evidence links Kastriot to drug import

Leó Daðason, lawyer for Kastriot Pepaj in the Dettifoss case, says there is no direct evidence linking his client to the import of amphetamine base brought to Iceland from Germany in April, mbl.is reported.

Daðason said key evidence was missing from the case, including anything showing that Kastriot knew about the substances being imported.

There were no communications with the crew members, links to the drugs, signs of payments, documents connecting him to people in Germany or any other document linking him to the import, Daðason said. He also said Kastriot had neither organised the trip, passed on instructions nor hired the crew members.

Testosterone and cannabis were found during a search of Kastriot’s home. Daðason said Kastriot had admitted owning the testosterone from the outset but denied that the cannabis belonged to him. The lawyer is seeking his acquittal on that charge.

Daðason also opposed the prosecution’s request for an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence, calling it far too severe. He said Kastriot had neither collected nor transported the substances and that there was no evidence of any benefit to him from the case.
