Dettifoss case, drug smuggling, Iceland

Prosecutors are seeking prison sentences of at least eight and a half years for Sævar Hilmarsson and Kastriot Pepaj, mbl.is reports. They are also seeking at least seven years for two crew members in the Dettifoss case.

The prosecution made the demands during closing arguments, with the main hearing due to conclude on Friday.

The four men are accused of arranging the import of 14,100 millilitres of amphetamine base, with a purity of 47 to 48 per cent, for distribution in Iceland for profit in March and April.

The prosecutor’s indictment says the drugs were concealed in four Absolut vodka bottles inside a bag aboard the container ship Dettifoss. The ship arrived in Iceland from Bremerhaven, Germany, early on Monday, April 13.
