17-year-old jailed over fraud targeting nine women named Kirsten

A 17-year-old man has been remanded in custody for four weeks over allegations that he defrauded 10 older people, nine of them women named Kirsten, DR reports.

The man is accused of manipulating the victims into handing over cards, from which nearly 84,000 kroner was withdrawn.

The alleged offences took place on Funen and in Roskilde. Mid and West Zealand Police and Funen Police worked together on the investigation because the cases occurred on both sides of the Great Belt Bridge, according to a joint press release.

The 17-year-old was detained during a closed constitutional hearing. He denied the charges and declined to make a statement in court, police said.

The judge ordered his detention because of the risk that he would commit further offences if released.

Police said nine of the 10 alleged victims share the first name Kirsten. The first name of the remaining person has not been disclosed. Provision has been made for a possible appeal against the detention.
