Toxic smoke released at FMC Rønland chemical plant

A toxic smoke release at the FMC Rønland chemical plant in Thyborøn prompted a police and fire service response on Friday morning, Danish broadcaster DR reported.

Midt- and West Jutland Police said there was no danger to the public, and the emergency response had ended by midday.

One employee suffered minor injuries after coming into contact with chemicals and was taken to hospital for examination as a precaution. The examination showed no signs of exposure, and the employee was discharged and is now on the way home, FMC Rønland plant manager Jakob Kyllesbech said in a written statement.

The incident did not involve a fire. Police duty officer Simon Skelkjær said a chemical substance had produced smoke or vapour.

FMC Rønland said visible smoke had been seen at the chemical plant. Police later said the incident began in a laboratory and was confined to one building.

Police received the report at 9.45am.
