Andri Snær receives Sigríður í Brattholti environmental award

mbl.is reports that Environment, Energy and Climate Minister Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson presented Andri Snær Magnason with the Sigríður í Brattholti nature conservation award on Icelandic Nature Day.

This is the 17th time the award has been presented. It is given to an individual who has made a notable contribution to nature conservation.

The award is named after Sigríður Tómasdóttir of Brattholt, an activist and environmentalist who campaigned firmly against plans to build a power plant at Gullfoss.

Andri Snær has advocated for nature for many years, raising public awareness of nature conservation, climate change and its effects on nature and society. His work has highlighted the protection of Icelandic nature, the country’s glaciers, ocean acidification and the fundamental changes caused by climate change. He has also long taken an active part in discussions about the use and protection of Icelandic nature.

According to the minister, Andri Snær’s contribution has helped build a bridge between science and the public. He has studied complex scientific topics, including melting glaciers and ocean acidification, and worked to make that knowledge accessible in plain language.
