Higher tunnel traffic leaves transport subsidy largely unused

Higher-than-expected traffic through the Eysturoy Tunnel and Sandoy Tunnel meant that most of the transport subsidy allocated by the treasury went unused last year, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The budget set aside 12 million kroner for the subsidy, but the accounts show that only 3.44 million kroner was spent.

Transport subsidy expenditure totalled 28.6 million kroner in 2024, when the allocation was 40 million kroner.

No allocation has been made for the subsidy this year.
