Andersson faces tough talks to form Sweden’s next government

Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson currently appears to have the best chance of forming Sweden’s next government, but difficult negotiations are likely, SVT reports. Not all votes from Sunday’s 2026 election have been counted.

How a government could be formed remains highly uncertain, according to SVT domestic political commentator Mats Knutson.

Knutson says some governing combinations appear more likely than others, but warns that if the parties’ positions remain unchanged, Sweden may have to prepare for a new election.
