SÁÁ board to stay as Vogur appoints new leaders

Morgunblaðið reports that the executive board of SÁÁ will remain in place despite a no-confidence motion signed by more than 60 employees. The board has proposed appointing a new chief executive and medical director at Vogur hospital.

Konráð Gylfason, director of operations and clinical services at Akureyri Hospital, is expected to become chief executive. Psychiatrist Jón Áki Jensson is expected to become medical director.

The organisation’s main board is due to meet this afternoon and is considered likely to approve the executive board’s decision to remain in office and appoint Konráð and Jón Áki.

Ásmundur Friðriksson, a former member of parliament who resigned from the executive board last week, has withdrawn his resignation following a conversation with the chair. Sources told Morgunblaðið that this indicates the board will remain in place.

An unnamed board member told the newspaper that tensions would ease once the new leaders took up their positions and that the dispute would not affect operations.

Asked whether the board intended to disregard the no-confidence statement signed by more than 60 employees, the board member said the matter still needed to be explained to staff and misunderstandings corrected.
