Romania arrests four men wanted in Danish murder case

Four Romanian men arrested in Romania will be extradited to Denmark in connection with the murder of a 37-year-old man found dead in the Gudenå river north of Silkeborg, DR reports.

Mid and West Jutland Police said the men were arrested at different locations in Romania on Thursday. They are aged 22, 25, 26 and 31, and were charged with murder after being remanded in custody in absentia last Friday.

The men will be extradited to Denmark and brought before a judge for a preliminary custody hearing. The police have not said when this will happen.

The victim was found dead near Svostrup on 24 August. His body had been weighed down with a car battery tied to it.

Both the suspects and the victim were in Denmark for work, according to police.

Police believe the murder took place at a summerhouse in Pramdragerparken near Fårvang and are seeking witnesses who were in the area from 20 to 24 August and saw anything suspicious.

“We have spoken to many people in the area, but we are still interested in hearing from anyone who was there and saw anything suspicious,” police commissioner Theis Thylstrup said.

Police do not believe any other suspected accomplices remain at large.

“Our investigation is continuing at full pace, but we believe we now have the four people responsible for the murder and that there are no further accomplices at large,” Thylstrup said.
