Parents express optimism about temporary facility at Brákarborg preschool in Ármúla
Parents of children at Brákarborg preschool were pleased with the conditions in the new temporary facility at Ármúla, which they had the opportunity to visit recently. The temporary premises, converted from office space, were established due to necessary repairs for the newly rebuilt preschool on Kleppsveg, which is experiencing structural issues.
Helgi Júlíus Sævarson, a member of the preschool’s parents’ council, expressed his renewed optimism following the visit, stating he was initially critical of the decision to move preschool operations into an office setting. However, after touring the facilities, he noted, “I was pleasantly surprised. Most attendees seemed to like what they saw during the open house. The staff appeared enthusiastic under the circumstances.”
Helgi acknowledged that while the temporary building offers ample space, the outdoor play area is smaller and narrower than ideal. He emphasized that the true effects of the temporary setup will become more apparent when the children start attending next week. Despite his concerns, he praised the efforts to make the facility enjoyable, appealing, and safe for the children. “It’s clear a lot of thought has gone into creating a positive environment,” he remarked.
The municipality is taking responsibility for the issues at Brákarborg, with repairs expected to take at least six months. As the new school year approaches, both parents and children are looking forward to the upcoming changes with a mix of cautious optimism and excitement.
