Police use stun gun during arrest of 19-year-old in Akureyri
Police used a stun gun while arresting a 19-year-old man in Akureyri during the night, mbl.is reported. Skarphéðinn Aðalsteinsson, head of the investigative department of police in northeastern Iceland, confirmed the incident.
He did not disclose the reason for the arrest or why the stun gun was used, but said the man had been assessed as a danger to himself and others.
The man was released after questioning earlier on Thursday and is no longer in police custody. The case is under investigation.
Ríkisútvarpið, which first reported the incident, quoted an unnamed lawyer for the man as saying that he was still in hospital. Aðalsteinsson said he did not know whether the man remained there.
