Jón Þór Þorvaldsson, chairman of the Icelandic Airline Pilots Association (FÍA), expects members to approve strike action limited to charter flights operated by Icelandair and Loftleiðir for third parties, he told mbl.is.

FÍA members agreed on Wednesday to hold a vote on the proposed action. It would not affect Icelandair’s scheduled flights and would mainly target the airline’s plans in Malta.

The vote will take a week, Jón said, with the result expected on Wednesday, November 11. He said there had been no formal talks between Icelandair and FÍA since the vote was announced, although the two sides had spoken by phone.
