1.3 million Danes invited to flu and Covid-19 vaccinations

Some 1.3 million people in Denmark will receive automatic invitations to be vaccinated against influenza and Covid-19, DR reports. Everyone aged 65 and over will be invited, while younger people in risk groups must seek out the offer themselves.

The Danish Health Authority and the Statens Serum Institut are sending invitations throughout September via Digital Post. People exempt from digital communication will receive a physical letter.

Appointments can be booked once an invitation has been received, and vaccinations will be offered from 1 October to 20 December 2026.

People with chronic illnesses or other conditions that increase the risk of severe disease are also eligible for free vaccination. This includes people under 65 with chronic heart or lung disease, diabetes, severely weakened immune systems or other conditions associated with a higher risk of serious illness.

Pregnant women in their second or third trimester are also eligible for a flu vaccination. They will not receive an automatic invitation but can book an appointment via vacciner.dk from 29 September.

Children under 18 with chronic illnesses will be vaccinated based on an individual medical assessment and advice, the Danish Health Authority said.

Vaccination centres will be established across Denmark by the regions and Danske Lægers Vaccinations Service. The Danish Health Authority recommends accepting the offer even if a person was vaccinated in previous years, as protection decreases over time and influenza and coronavirus continue to change.

A new vaccination reduces the risk of severe illness and hospitalisation, the authority said.
