Fraudsters used artificial intelligence to imitate the voice of Danish Industry chief executive Lars Sandahl Sørensen in an attempt to make an employee transfer money, DR reported.

The callers contacted Danish Industry’s office in South Korea and posed as Sørensen. The employee reacted cautiously, despite the call sounding genuine, and internal controls helped stop the attempted transfer, Sørensen said in a Facebook post.

The fraudsters also created fake accounts in his name and requested payment in connection with an allegedly confidential matter. Sørensen told news agency Ritzau that he had heard the imitation and found it highly convincing.

Danish Industry has reported the single known case to police. Sørensen warned that any Danish company or public authority could be targeted and urged organisations to remain alert.
