Rental e-scooters linked to 380 compensated traffic insurance claims

Rental electric scooters caused 380 incidents covered by traffic insurance last year, Yle reported, citing the Finnish Motor Insurers’ Centre.

More than 600,000 euros in compensation was paid for the damage. The average compensation was about 1,600 euros.

Rental electric scooters became subject to traffic insurance in summer 2024 following an amendment to the Traffic Insurance Act.

The Finnish Motor Insurers’ Centre said compensation can be claimed from the rental company’s traffic insurance for damage caused to third parties by a rental e-scooter.
