Ríkisútvarpið had 269 full-time equivalent positions last year, including 119 news and programme producers, mbl.is reports.
The figures were given by Logi Einarsson, the minister of culture, innovation and higher education, in response to a question from Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, a member of parliament for the Independence Party.
In addition to the 269 positions, RÚV had 12 news and programme producers working as contractors last year.
The response shows that the number of full-time equivalent positions was highest in 2024, when it stood at 275. The composition of the workforce has changed since 2019.
The number of positions classified as journalists rose from 64 in 2019 to 70 in 2025, after reaching a low of 63 in 2022. Positions classified as programme producers increased from 45 in 2019 to 49 last year.
Combined, the two groups grew from 109 to 119 positions between 2019 and 2025, an increase of 9 per cent.
mbl.is reported more than a week ago that RÚV had recently carried out redundancies and planned to reduce its workforce by 10 to 15 full-time equivalent positions as part of cost-cutting measures.
