The film Hvar er draumurinn? went straight to the top of Iceland’s cinema rankings over the weekend, mbl.is reported. A total of 3,069 people saw it during its opening weekend, making it the biggest opening for an Icelandic film so far this year.
The film is screening in cinemas across Iceland, according to a statement from Sambíóin.
Its title refers to a famous song by Sálin hans Jóns míns, whose music also forms the basis of the musical. The band’s songs are woven into a story about love, friendship, joy and grief set in 1990s Reykjavík, a time of big dreams, romance and memorable music.
Director Höskuldur Þór Jónsson said in an interview with Morgunblaðið’s Sunday edition that the production was driven by determination and passion. He described the cast and crew as a large group of friends who worked on the project for the love of it.
Filming lasted 25 days, while post-production took about a year.
