Police warn after deadly veterinary drug stolen in Ylöjärvi

Police are warning about an extremely dangerous substance stolen during a weekend burglary in Pirkanmaa, Yle reports. The substance was taken from the HaukiVet veterinary clinic in Kuru, Ylöjärvi.

The stolen Euthasol preparation is used to euthanise animals. Even a small amount can be life-threatening, police said.

The substance is a red, highly sticky liquid that flows poorly. Police urged people not to use it under any circumstances.

Euthasol contains pentobarbital, a barbiturate that suppresses the central nervous system. The police said the amount stolen was enough to euthanise several animals, but did not disclose the exact quantity.

Other substances were also taken in the burglary, but police decided to issue a warning specifically about Euthasol because of its particular danger.

Police are asking anyone with observations or information about the substance to report it.
