Employers seek workers after FMC Rønland closure

Several employers have already contacted the 3F trade union about hiring the roughly 400 workers who will lose their jobs when FMC Rønland, formerly Cheminova, closes at Harboøre Tange in western Jutland, DR reports.

Frank Abildtrup, deputy chairman of 3F Holstebro-Lemvig and a former Cheminova employee, said employers from near and far had offered positions.

“Vestas in Lem has 25 positions that it very much wants to fill as quickly as possible. We have a car dealer who needs a vehicle preparation worker, and the potato flour factory in Brande is looking for several workers,” he said.

Abildtrup said he hoped all 400 employees would find new work during the year.

“Fortunately, we are made of the kind of stuff where they may be able to knock us down, but they cannot keep us down. So we will find a way,” he said.

The closure was announced on Tuesday. Local politicians are already working to establish an ammunition factory on the property.

“We have a location with no residents within a radius of three kilometres, and above all we have 400 competent employees trained to handle dangerous substances and who are highly skilled in safety,” Lemvig Mayor Jens Lønberg of the Conservative Party said.
