Construction of the Arnarnesvegur road project is nearing completion, mbl.is reports. The work between Rjúpnavegur and Breiðholtsbraut has been under way for almost four years, and part of the project is already in use.
A roundabout and an underpass are being built at the junction of Arnarnesvegur and Rjúpnavegur. The project is the third phase of Arnarnesvegur and will significantly shorten the route between Arnarnes in Garðabær and Breiðholt.
A bridge over Breiðholtsbraut has already opened, although its design has drawn criticism. The project is expected to be completed in November.
