Earthquake strikes east of Kleifarvatn

An earthquake struck the Brennisteinsfjöll mountains east of Kleifarvatn, mbl.is reported. The Icelandic Met Office initially measured it at magnitude 3.4, but later revised the figure to 3.0.
Several smaller aftershocks were recorded. The Met Office said earthquakes are common in the area, but this was the strongest to be measured there since an earthquake of magnitude 3.8 on August 18, 2025.
The Met Office also received reports that the earthquake was felt in populated areas.
