Temporary contracts set to restore school transport for 150 children

Temporary contracts are being arranged to restore Flextrafik transport for 150 vulnerable children and special school pupils in Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality, DR reports.

Fynbus has been authorised to sign temporary contracts with Bergholdt and Vikingbus on behalf of the municipality. The decision was made at an extraordinary meeting of the municipality’s Economic, Business and Tourism Committee.

The municipality expects some vehicles to begin operating next week, but says parents will still need to help with transport during the transition. It is working to restart the service as quickly as possible while maintaining quality, according to a municipal press release.

Parents have had to find alternatives since Wednesday, when the Funen-based Flextrafik provider LS Busser stopped its services immediately. The company was petitioned for bankruptcy the following day.

LS Busser had faced criticism over safety issues, and Funen Police had recently seized the company’s capital.

The municipality says Bergholdt and Vikingbus can operate the special transport service in Faaborg-Midtfyn until the summer. It has not said when transport for all affected children and pupils will return to normal.
