Bjørt Lind, a member of the Faroese parliament for the Social Democratic Party, has criticised the Centre Party’s expected proposal to amend the abortion law, Kringvarp Føroya reported on Friday.
“This shows a lack of trust in women,” Lind said.
Centre Party leader Steffan Klein Poulsen has said the proposed changes would include mandatory counselling for women seeking an abortion.
Lind, who is also a psychologist and sexologist, said women already receive such counselling. She also said it was unnecessary to require women to have a mandatory period for further consideration.
“Requiring women to think it over one more time is a sign of a lack of trust in the woman,” Lind said.
The abortion law has been in force for only a few months.
