Flex transport faces renewed car shortage and delays

Flex transport users may face longer waits again today because of a shortage of vehicles, DR reports. Sydtrafik says important journeys, including trips to hospital treatment, will be prioritised.

Midttrafik and Sydtrafik have published warnings about the disruption on their websites. FynBus also reported a shortage of vehicles yesterday.

Flex transport is an alternative service for places not served by buses, trains or the metro. Passengers book a vehicle for a specific time.

Disruption has lasted several days

Flex transport services have faced problems both yesterday and on Wednesday. On Thursday, all three transport companies reported waiting times and a shortage of vehicles.

On Wednesday, Midttrafik initially planned to cancel all 400 regular flex transport journeys because its suppliers lacked capacity. The journeys resumed later that day after vehicles were made available.

The announcement came as the Funen-based flex transport provider LS Busser suspended driving services for FynBus, Sydtrafik and Midttrafik. The company said this was because its operating capital had been seized.

The disruption comes a week after LS Busser’s safety standards were criticised in an episode of DR’s programme Kontant. Several drivers who had worked for the company told the programme about alleged manipulation of transport company inspections and misuse of disability aids.

LS Busser owner Omran Khaled Abdel Rahman said in a written statement that the company had been accused of many things in the media but had focused on providing good and reliable transport for passengers.
