Woman accused of posing as girlfriend and stepmother
Íris Helga Jónatansdóttir lied at a workplace where she worked for a time, claiming to be a man’s girlfriend and his daughter’s stepmother or mother, mbl.is reported as her trial continued at the District Court of Reykjanes on Tuesday.
Two men and their daughters testified about their experiences with Jónatansdóttir. She is charged with stalking, defamatory allegations, forgery, making false accusations and violating child protection laws.
Prosecutors allege she created TikTok accounts accusing the two men of serious sexual offences and sent threatening and inappropriate messages from fake accounts to the men and people close to them, including their daughters.
One of the men had a relationship with Jónatansdóttir for a year, until she ended it. He said threatening messages began arriving afterwards. She also allegedly told him falsely that she was pregnant by him and that he would not be allowed to see the child. TikTok posts about him also began appearing online.
Jónatansdóttir is accused of turning up uninvited at the man’s home in the capital region to see his daughter, and later at his and his daughter’s workplaces in Breiðdalsvík, where she allegedly watched them. The man said he had been out of work since the summer and that the case had negatively affected him in his previous job and twice prevented him from being hired elsewhere.
The daughter, who was born in 2007, said she had a good relationship with Jónatansdóttir while she was dating her father. Their relationship remained good briefly after the couple split, but later deteriorated. The daughter said Jónatansdóttir sent her messages alleging that her father had been unfaithful and that her younger brother was not his child.
Jónatansdóttir is also accused of submitting a report to child protection authorities in a way that made it appear to have come from a staff member at the daughter’s secondary school. The report alleged that the daughter had experienced violence at home and that her parents had brought drugs into the school.
The daughter said the events caused her significant distress and fear. She sought help from a psychologist and said she still felt the effects of the case.
The other man had slept with Jónatansdóttir once after she contacted him online, according to his testimony. He said messages later began arriving for him and people close to him. Jónatansdóttir also allegedly attended a sporting event he was organising and brought him a gift containing baked goods.
