Equinix and CPP Investments acquire Atnorth data centre operator

Atnorth, the Icelandic data centre operator building a facility in Ummeljoki, Kouvola, has been sold, according to a statement reported by Yle.

Digital infrastructure company Equinix and CPP Investments announced the acquisition of Atnorth in February. The deal transfers ownership of Atnorth’s three operating data centres in Finland and the facility under construction in Kouvola.

Atnorth operates one data centre in Helsinki and two in Espoo. The company will continue operating independently under its own brand.

CPP Investments will hold about 51 per cent of Atnorth, while Equinix will own about 34 per cent. Atnorth’s previous majority owner, Partners Group, is reinvesting in the company and will retain an ownership stake of about 10 per cent.

Atnorth has planned a data centre complex consisting of several halls in Kouvola. Construction in Ummeljoki is the most advanced of the projects.

The main contractor changed this week when construction company YIT replaced CTS Nordics Oy. CTS Nordics unexpectedly withdrew from the project and has not publicly commented on the decision.
