Kringvarp Føroya reports that a fire broke out in the engine room of Smyril Line’s new ship, Skipanes, on Wednesday afternoon. The fire was extinguished shortly afterwards, and none of the 23 crew members was injured.
Skipanes was about 20 nautical miles off Taiwan while travelling to the Faroe Islands. The ship will enter a shipyard in China for inspections.
The company said it would not be possible to say when the ship could resume sailing until the inspections had been completed.
Skipanes was built in China and handed over to Smyril Line last Tuesday.
