Síminn launches Bang and Olufsen TV set top box

According to mbl.is, Síminn has begun selling a new TV set top box developed in partnership with Bang and Olufsen, featuring a built in speaker from the Danish audio equipment manufacturer.

Síminn said the device is intended to take users’ television experience to a new level. In addition to providing television services, it is designed to play a larger role in audio and visual entertainment, with the option of adding two rear speakers.

The set top box supports Dolby Audio and is intended to provide clearer, improved sound for films, television programmes and sports, as well as music listening.

About 50,000 set top boxes are currently in use in approximately 45,000 Icelandic homes, according to the announcement.

“We are excited to bring Bang and Olufsen’s sound to Icelandic homes in partnership with Síminn,” Duncan McCue, Bang and Olufsen’s managing director of business development, said. “With this solution, customers get sound that performs equally well for television viewing and music listening.”

“We are making an ambitious investment to ensure that the experience of television viewers is in a class of its own,” said Birkir Ágústsson, Síminn’s managing director of media.
