The situation at Landspitali regarding patients with completed functional and health assessments has not been better this century, with only 46 patients currently hospitalised with a valid assessment, mbl.is reports.

Heilsuvernd made the statement in a Facebook post, citing a nurse on the hospital’s discharge team.

The post said opening transitional nursing beds at Urðarhvarf in April had been crucial for Landspitali. Vífilsstaðir, a nursing facility, was also reopened after renovations this summer.

A total of 172 people have stayed at Urðarhvarf since it opened. At Vífilsstaðir, 36 of the 48 available places have been filled in recent weeks.

More than 160 new places provided by Heilsuvernd have therefore been used over the past five months.

“This means that major progress has been made in this area in recent months,” the post said.
