Construction company YIT will complete an unfinished data centre project in Ummeljoki, Kouvola, Yle reports. YIT has signed an agreement to become the new main contractor.
The previous main contractor, CTS Nordics, will not complete the project. Atnorth, the Icelandic company commissioning the data centre, and CTS Nordics have terminated their cooperation agreement. The parties have not given a reason for the termination.
YIT will be responsible for the project’s heating, water and ventilation systems, as well as electrical and automation technology.
Atnorth is planning a data centre campus consisting of several halls in Kouvola. The Ummeljoki project is the furthest advanced of the company’s projects there.
YIT already has another contract with Atnorth in the same area. Announced in July, the contract covers the design and construction of a new data centre building valued at about 300 million euros. The building will be located near the Ummeljoki site, on the grounds of the former paper mill in Myllykoski.
Like Atnorth’s other halls, the new building is planned for the banks of the Kymijoki River. YIT estimates that the project will be completed by the end of next year.
