Two long-established Reykjavík hotels will join Íslandshótel’s hotel operation under new names from September 1, mbl.is reports. Hilton Reykjavík Nordica will become Hilton Reykjavík, while Reykjavík Natura will be renamed Hótel Reykjavík Askja.
Hilton Reykjavík will continue operating under the international Hilton brand while becoming part of the Íslandshótel hotel collection. Hótel Reykjavík Askja will join the Hótel Reykjavík brand, which already includes Hótel Reykjavík Centrum, Hótel Reykjavík Grand and Hótel Reykjavík Saga.
The hotels will continue operating without interruption, with planned renovations carried out in stages. Hilton Reykjavík has 251 rooms and Hótel Reykjavík Askja has 220 rooms.
Reitir and Íslandshótel will renovate the hotels with the aim of improving their quality and appeal, including by renewing a large proportion of the guest rooms.
Íslandshótel’s spa operations will be brought together under the name Reykjavík Spa and served by a new joint website. The names of the restaurants at both hotels will be announced later.
“We welcome these two long-established Reykjavík hotels to the Íslandshótel group,” Íslandshótel chief executive Davíð Torfi Ólafsson said in a statement. He said the new names marked the beginning of the hotels’ next chapter and welcomed the many employees who had worked at the hotels under their previous operator and were now joining Íslandshótel.
Íslandshótel operates 19 hotels with about 2,400 rooms across Iceland under the Fosshótel and Hótel Reykjavík brands. Its core business is hotel and restaurant operations, and it also owns a large share of the properties housing its activities.
