Lassi Klein wins Arctic Young Chef competition

Several thousand people watched a young chefs’ competition in Klaksvík on Saturday, KVF reported. Lassi Havsteinsson Klein won the Arctic Young Chef contest, which featured seven chefs under the age of 24.

The competition was held as part of Seamen’s Day. NORA originally initiated the event, which is now organised by the food training programme at the Technical School in Klaksvík.

The contestants had to use monkfish in their starter and ling in their main course. They created their own dishes and submitted a list of all ingredients before the competition, allowing the judges to check whether the final result matched their plans.

Mogens Højsted finished second and Krista Kjærbo third.

“I am sure that a competition like this encourages interest in the chef profession,” Klein said.

Rannvá Beder, one of the competition’s judging chefs, shares that expectation.

The competition serves as a qualifier for a final in Iceland involving the winners from the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Norway and Iceland. Andras Sigmarsson Jacobsen, head of chef training at the Technical School in Klaksvík and the person responsible for the competition, said he has no doubt it will be held again.
